Connect to a Garry's Mod Server

There are a few ways to connect to a Garry's Mod server but we recommend using the in-game console. Sometimes the Legacy Browser can also be helpful, especially its History tab, to easily connect to previous servers.
Use the Console
Step 1: Open the Console
The default key to open the console is the ` key. In older versions of Garry's Mod, the console is disabled by default.
Step 2: Enter Server Details
If the server has a password, use the password command let Garry's Mod know what password to use when connecting. For example, if the server had a password of "amongus," you would use: password amongus.
To connect to a server, you use the connect command followed by its address. If you were trying to connect to gmod.bruhmoment.edu, you would use: connect gmod.bruhmoment.edu. This will then make Garry's Mod attempt to connect.
The Garry's Mod console will remember entire commands even after closing the game. It will even remember the password you've entered. On subsequent connections to the same server, you can simply being to type the connect command and an auto-fill suggestion should appear. You can then run this command and Garry's Mod will use the last password you set with the password command.
Use the Legacy Browser
These instructions will explain how to add and then connect to a server via the Legacy Browser. If you're simply trying to connect to a server you've previously connected to then just use steps one and two below, but go to the History tab instead of the Favorites tab. There should be a list of servers in order of last connected to.
Step 1: Open Legacy Browser
Click Find Multiplayer Game from the main menu and then click Legacy Browser on the left sidebar.
Step 2: Switch to Favorites Tab
There is a list of tabs near the top of the Legacy Browser window. Click the Favorites tab.
Step 3: Add Server By IP Address
Right-click anywhere in the white space and click Add server by IP address , or click Add a Server at the bottom-right of the Legacy Browser.
Step 4: Enter Server Details
Paste the server's address into the text box and click Find games at this address... . The server should appear in the list. If the server does not show up in the list, make sure you are entering the address correctly. If the server still does not show up, use the connection issues guide.
Step 5: Add Server
Click Add selected game server to favorites .
You can now find the server in your Favorites list. You can connect to it either by double-clicking it in the list or clicking once and then clicking the Connect button at the bottom-right of the server browser. Additionally, you can use the Favorites section of the normal server browser (not the legacy browser) as they are synced.
