Using Thunderstore

What is Thunderstore?

Thunderstore is a mod manager that can be used for several games, such as Risk of Rain 2, VTOL VR, and, of course, Lethal Company. It allows you to easily search for and install mods, and provides a special way for you to launch the game which allows mods to work (launching Lethal Company directly from Steam will not load mods). Thunderstore is open source and distributed through Overwolf.

Why do you need this for mods in Lethal Company?

You don't. Getting mods to work in Lethal Company requires some work because modding isn't officially supported. If you don't want to use Thunderstore and are familiar with following guides on Github repos and modding games yourself, then you can start here to install mods manually. But it would be a lot easier to use Thunderstore since it handles everything for you, and this help page will explain every step of getting it set up and working. If you already have CurseForge, which is an application used for mooded Minecraft, then there's no reason to not use Thunderstore.

Part 1: Install Thunderstore

Whether or not you have Overwolf already, go to this page and click the red "Get App" button. This will download an installer that will do the following:

  • Check for Overwolf and install it if needed.
  • Automatically install the Thunderstore app on Overwolf.

Run the installer after it finishes downloading. Once the installer is finished, the Thunderstore window (shown below) should open. This may take some time depending on your connection.

Opening Thunderstore

You will need to open Thunderstore every time you want to play Lethal Company with mods (this is discussed later). You only need to use the installer once. To open Thunderstore, you can use any of the following methods:

  • Search for it in the Start menu
  • Open the automatically generated Desktop shortcut.
  • Open Overwolf and then open Thunderstore from your library.
  • Open Run with  Win  +  R , paste "C:\Program Files (x86)\Overwolf\OverwolfLauncher.exe" -launchapp ahpflogoookodlegojjphcjpjaejgghjnfcdjdmi into the text box, and click the  OK  button.

Part 2: Open Lethal Company in Thunderstore

Thuderstore is used for modding several different games, so we need to tell it which game we'd like to mod. Either scroll down or use the search bar to find Lethal Company. When you find it, hover over its cover image and click the Select game button. If you'd like, you can click the Set as default button instead so that Lethal Company is automatically selected when you open Thunderstore.

Part 3: Select a Profile

After you've selected Lethal Company (or if you set it as the default game), you will see the Profile selection screen. "Profiles" in Thunderstore are simply sets of mods that you can switch between. For example, it might be beneficial to have two seperate profiles if you frequently play modded Lethal Company with two different groups that use different mods. For the purposes of this guide, we will be sticking with the Default profile which is automatically created for you.

Instructions for Importing Premade Profile

To make setup easier, we have created a premade profile with all of the mods on our mod list. Using our premade profile is no different than using the Default profile and adding the mods manually, but the premade profile will do all of the work for you. It will add a new profile for Lethal Company, so you'll need to make sure it's selected whenever you want to play.

Click the Import / Update button from the Profile selection page. A pop-up will appear with two options:

  • Import new profile - Click this if you're importing the premade profile for the first time.
  • Update existing profile - Whenever we release a new version of the premade profile, you will click this button.

You will then need to click From code and paste the code which can be found on the Lethal Company Help Center, under the Mod List subsection. Paste the code into the text box and then click the blue Import button.

If you're adding the premade profile for the first time...
You will be put back on the Profile selection page once the import is complete, but you will now see you have a new profile. Double check that it's selected (it's name will be in blue text).

If you are updating the profile...
You will see a pop-up asking you to select the existing profile. Ensure it is selected in the dropdown and then click the blue Update profile: ... button. Once the update is complete, you will be back on the Profile selection page.

Once you have a profile selected, click the Select profile button. Thunderstore will now show the mod manager interface.

Part 4: Managing Mods

If you are using the premade profile...
Please only read the My mods subsection below and then skip to Part 5. The other content in this part is irrelevant.

After selecting a profile, Thunderstore will now switch to the main mod management page which is where you'll do most of the work. You can manage your currently installed mods, get new ones, update mods, change config files, and so on. This is also where you launch the game so that your mods are loaded.

There are several different tabs you can access from here that are for various actions. By default, Thunderstore opens to the My Mods tab.

My mods

  • Lists all currently installed mods, their version, and links for more info.
  • Enable/disable mods without needing to uninstall/reinstall them.
  • Get notified when updates are available.
If you are using the premade profile, NEVER update mods manually from this tab. ONLY update by grabbing the new code and following the steps in "Instructions for Importing Premade Profile" under Part 3.

Get mods

  • Lists all available mods for the game.
  • Click on a mod, then click Download to get the mod.
  • Search and sort results.
  • Download specific versions if needed.
  • Automatically downloads dependencies for mods if needed.

Downloads

  • Shows in-progress downloads.
  • Useful if you have a slow connection and want to monitor progress.

Part 5: Launch the Game!

Once you have your mods set up and you're ready to play, you can launch the game by clicking the blue Modded button at the top-right of the window. You will always need to launch the game using this button on Thunderstore for mods to work. Mods will not load if you launch Lethal Company directly from Steam.

The game will not open right away, and you should see a separate terminal window open instead. This window appearing is normal. After a few moments, modded Lethal Company should open and you'll be ready to play!
