Simple Voice Chat

[Meta] Please note that this page is missing images. They will be added at a later date.

Some of our servers use the Simple Voice Chat plugin which adds proximity voice chat to Minecraft servers. You will need to use its complimentary Fabric mod in order to use the feature.

Install Simple Voice Chat

There are several different ways to go about adding the Simple Voice Chat mod to your Minecraft install. This guide will go over the easiest way assuming you have no prior setup.

Fabric uses the same mods folder that other mod loaders use, such as Forge. If you have manually installed Forge mods into your Minecraft folder then things will not work if you follow this guide. It is not difficult to set things us so that there are no issues, but that is beyond the scope of this guide.

Step 1: Download Fabric

Head over to Fabric's download page and click the blue Download button.

Step 2: Install Fabric

Once the Fabric installer finishes downloading, run the installer. A window like the one below should appear. It's okay if your Loader Version doesn't match the photo below, but your Minecraft Version should be 1.20.4. If it's not, click it to open a dropdown menu and select 1.20.4 from the list.
Click the Install button to continue.

When the installation is finished, you should see a message like the one below. Click OK and close the installer window.

Step 3: Download Simple Voice Chat

Head over to Simple Voice Chat's Curseforge page and look at the Fabric files. Click the latest release version and then the Download button.

Step 4: Move Simple Voice Chat

Once you have the Simple Voice Chat .jar file downloaded, move it to your mods folder. A folder named mods was added to your .minecraft folder when you installed Fabric. If you don't know how to get to your Minecraft folder, use this guide.

Once you've moved the mod to the mods folder, you're finished!

Launching Minecraft

When you want to play with the Simple Voice Chat mod, you will need to select the fabric installation from the Minecraft Launcher.

How It Works

The default settings are Push to Talk, or PTT, with the  Caps Lock  key. Players within 48 blocks can hear you. The closer you are to someone, the better they can hear you. A microphone icon will appear next to your nametag when you are speaking.

Open the Menu

You can open the menu with the  V  key. From here, you can access the Settings menu or the groups menu (discussed later). There are buttons along the bottom that allow you to mute your mic if you're using voice activation, mute all voice chat sounds, adjust volumes for specific players, record audio, and toggle voice chat icons (mic next to nametag).

Settings

Use the Settings menu to change your PTT key or switch to voice activation. You can manually select your microphone and speakers from this menu. Remember that these setting sonly apply to voice chat sounds, not the entire game.

Using Groups

A really convenient feature of the voice chat plugin is the ability to create groups so that you can speak with others even when they're not in your vicinity. When a player in your group speaks, you hear them at 100% volume and there is no directional audio.

You can open the groups menu by pressing the  key. From there, you can join a group or create a new one.

Create a Group

Creating a group is very easy. You must set a group name and type, and you can optionally set a password to restrict players from joining.

Group Types

The most important setting when making a group is the group type.

Group Type Speak to Non-Members Hear Non-Members
Open Yes Yes
Normal Yes No
Isolated No No

As you can see, the group type restricts how players not in your group can interact with members of the group. It is recommended that you always use the Open group type. That way you can have communications with your members no matter where they are while still being able to speak with other players you encounter.
